Link a note to the page in your browser

Open Quick Capture over a web page and the note links back to that page. Next time you're there, Remindly shows the notes you already made about it.

  • 2 minutes
  • Works on Mac
  • macOS 15 or later
  • Safari, Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc or Vivaldi

Link the page you're on

This works in Safari, Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc and Vivaldi.

  1. Open the page in your browser and press ⌃⌥N.

Quick Capture opens over the page, as it does in any app.

  2. The first time, click Link the page from Safari under the note.

It names the browser you're in. macOS asks whether Remindly may control that browser: click Allow. It asks once per browser. Click the ✕ beside it to save this note without a page.

  3. The page's title appears under the note.

From then on it's there as soon as Quick Capture opens. Click its ✕ if this note shouldn't link to it, or click Link “…” to put it back.

  4. Type your note and press ⌘↩.

You can also save without typing anything: the note is titled with the page's title.

The note shows the site's name at the top, next to when it was edited. Click it to open the page again. The link syncs with the note.

Find what you saved there before

When you've already made notes about a page or its site, Quick Capture says so on the right, for example 2 notes from en.wikipedia.org. Click it to see them.

  • This page comes first: notes that link to exactly the page you're on.
  • Then the rest of the site, newest first, up to 8 notes in all.
  • Pick one to open it in Remindly. Quick Capture closes and keeps your draft.

It counts notes from anywhere. Pages you saved from Safari's share sheet or the Web Clipper link to their page too, so they show up here.

Other apps

Over an app that isn't a browser, Quick Capture shows From Xcode (or whichever app you're in). There's no page to link, but Remindly remembers which app each note came from. Next time you open Quick Capture over that app, the menu on the right lists those notes. Click the ✕ next to it if this note shouldn't count as from that app.

That memory stays on this Mac. It doesn't sync, and it isn't part of the note.

What Remindly reads

  • Only the front tab's address and title, and only when you open Quick Capture. Not the page's text, your other tabs or your history.
  • Only web pages. Start pages, settings pages and files open in the browser aren't linked.
  • Nothing until you allow it. Remindly doesn't ask your browser anything before you click Link the page from… and macOS has asked you.
  • Turn it off any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation → Remindly.

If something's not right

There's no page under the note
The browser's front tab may not be a web page: a new tab, a start page or a PDF on your Mac isn't linked. Open a web page and press ⌃⌥N again. If you clicked the page's ✕, click Link “…” to bring it back.
I clicked Don't Allow
Turn it back on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation: find Remindly and switch on your browser. macOS doesn't ask a second time.
It says "From Firefox" instead of linking the page
Firefox doesn't let other apps ask which page it's on. Use the Remindly Web Clipper in Firefox to save a page with its link.
Is this on iPhone or iPad?
No, it's part of Quick Capture on the Mac. On iPhone and iPad, share a page from Safari to Remindly to save it with its link.
