Remindly vs Google Keep

As quick as Keep. On your Mac, too.

Keep is quick on your phone, but on a Mac it's a browser tab. Remindly has native apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac: press ⌃⌥N in any app, type, and it's saved. Notes live on your device, PDFs and scans are searchable, and everything exports as plain Markdown.

Native apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, plus a web app.

Taking a note on your Mac

Google Keep

Find the keep.google.com tab in your browser, or open a new one, then start typing.

Remindly

Press ⌃⌥N in any app. ⌘↩ saves, and you're back where you were.

Google doesn't make a Keep app for Mac. Checked October 2026.

A real Mac app

Quick Capture from any app, and a menu bar item with your recent notes.

Notebooks and tags

Notebooks can sit inside notebooks, and every note can carry tags.

Plain Markdown

Export every note as a .md file whenever you like. No lock-in.

Beyond Keep

Just as quick. Room for the rest.

Remindly keeps the quick note quick, and adds what Keep leaves out: a Mac app, notebooks, file attachments and an export you can open anywhere.

From any app on your Mac

⌃⌥N opens a small panel over whatever you're doing. ⌘↩ saves, Esc puts it away, and your draft waits for next time.

Notebooks, not just labels

Notebooks can sit inside other notebooks, and notes still take tags. Type [[ to link one note to another.

PDFs and scans you can search

Attach PDFs and other files up to 30 MB each. Scan paper with your iPhone camera, and the text is recognized on your device so search finds it.

Plain Markdown, in folders

Export every note as a .md file, one folder per notebook, with attachments alongside. It opens in Obsidian or any text editor.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can I import my Keep notes?
No. There's no Keep importer. Remindly imports Evernote .enex files, on the Mac. Google Takeout can still give you a copy of your Keep notes to hold on to.
Is there a limit on how many notes I can keep?
No. Notes and notebooks are unlimited on every plan, including the free one.
Can Remindly remind me about a note?
Yes. Use the bell on a note to pick a time, and your iPhone, iPad and Mac notify you. From the notification you can mark it done or have it remind you again in an hour. Reminders also show up in a Reminders list and a calendar.
Can I share a note with someone?
Yes, as a read-only link. Share a note from the iPhone, iPad or Mac app and anyone with the link can read it, until you stop sharing. Nobody else can edit it: there are no collaborators or shared notebooks.
Which devices does Remindly run on?
There are native apps for iPhone (iOS 18 or later), iPad (iPadOS 18 or later) and Mac (macOS 15 or later), plus a web app. On Windows, install the web app from Edge or Chrome: it opens in its own window, but it needs a connection, because your notes aren't stored on the PC. There's no Android app.
Can I get my notes out of Remindly later?
Yes. In the Mac app, File → Export All Notes as Markdown… writes every note as a .md file, one folder per notebook, with attachments alongside. The folder opens in Obsidian or any text editor.
