Open Quick Capture
-
Make sure Remindly is running and you're signed in.
Quick Capture works whenever Remindly is open, even with its window closed. You'll see its checklist icon in the menu bar.
-
In any app, press ⌃⌥N (Control-Option-N).
Or click the Remindly icon in the menu bar and choose New Note.
-
The Quick Capture panel appears over what you're doing.
It floats above your other windows, full-screen apps included, and the app you were using stays in front.
Write and save
-
Type your note. The first line becomes its title.
Press Return for a new line. Markdown works, so
- [ ] Milkmakes a checklist item. -
Press ⌘↩ (Command-Return) to save.
Or click Save. The panel closes and the note is in Remindly. There's no confirmation to dismiss.
-
Want to keep writing in the full editor? Press ⌘O instead.
Open in Remindly saves the note and opens it in the main window.
Changed your mind? Press Esc. The panel closes and keeps your draft for next time, until you quit Remindly.
How titles work
Quick Capture splits what you type into a title and a note, so you never have to fill in two fields.
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
| Several lines | The first line is the title; the rest is the note. |
| One line | That line is the title, and the note is empty. |
## Trip plan | A heading marker on the first line is dropped: the title is "Trip plan". |
| A very long first line | Over 120 characters, the title is shortened at a word, and the whole text is kept in the note. |
Good to know
- Notes land in All Notes, with no notebook or tags, even if a notebook is open in the main window. Move them whenever you like.
- They sync in seconds. Your iPhone and iPad get the note on their next sync. Offline, it waits on your Mac.
- The menu bar menu also lists your 8 most recently edited notes and has Sync Now.
- No permissions needed. Quick Capture doesn't ask for Accessibility or any other access.
- Start Remindly when you log in so the shortcut is always ready: add it in .
On iPhone, the quickest way in is the New Note button on the Lock Screen or "Add a note in Remindly" with Siri.
