Add a reminder
-
Open the note and tap the bell (Remind Me) in the toolbar.
-
Tap a quick choice, or pick a date and time and tap Set.
On a Mac the button is Set Reminder.
- In 1 Hour
- This Evening 6 PM
- Tomorrow Morning 9 AM
- Next Week Monday 9 AM
-
The reminder shows above the note's title.
Tap its time to change it, or the circle to mark it done.
Faster from the list: touch and hold a note (right-click on a Mac), choose Remind Me and pick a time. Starting from nothing? In Reminders, tap New Reminder for a note that reminds you at 9 AM tomorrow.
Or just type it: in Quick Capture on a Mac (⌃⌥N), or Add Note with Siri or Shortcuts, put the date in the first line. “Call Bob Friday 3pm #work” saves a note called “Call Bob”, tagged work, that reminds you Friday at 3 PM. A day without a time reminds you at 9 AM. Quick Capture shows the reminder before you save; click its × to keep the date as plain text.
The first time you set a reminder, Remindly asks to send notifications. Allow them, or reminders can't alert you.
When it's due
A notification shows the note's title and the start of its text. Tap it to open the note. To act on it without opening Remindly, touch and hold it on iPhone or iPad, or move the pointer over it on a Mac.
Mark as Done
Ticks the reminder off everywhere. It moves to the Done section of your reminders.
Remind Me in 1 Hour
Moves the reminder to one hour from now, and you'll get the notification again then.
Due dates on checklists
Each item in a checklist can have a due date of its own, so one note can hold a whole to-do list with dates.
-
Type the date into the item, the way you'd say it.
“Pay rent Friday”, “Renew passport Nov 15”, “Call the bank tomorrow”.
-
Move on to the next item.
The date becomes the item's due date, at the end of the line: Pay rent 📅 2026-10-30. Undo puts your words back.
On a day something is due, your devices send one notification at 9 AM that lists it. Due items also show in Reminders and the Calendar, where ticking the box checks the item off in its note, and in the morning email. The date is plain text in the note's Markdown, the same way the Obsidian Tasks plugin writes it, so it survives an export.
See what's coming up
Two places in the sidebar collect every note with a reminder, and every checklist item with a due date.
Reminders
Grouped into Overdue, Today, Tomorrow and Upcoming, with finished ones under Done. The number beside it counts what's due today or overdue.
On iPhone and iPad, swipe right to mark done, or left to snooze or remove.Calendar
A Month view with a dot on each day that has reminders, or an Agenda that lists the days ahead. Tap an empty day and choose Add Reminder to plan ahead.
Get a morning email
Remindly can email you what's due each day, which is handy if you're away from your devices.
-
Open Settings in Remindly.
On iPhone and iPad, tap the person icon at the top of the sidebar. On a Mac, choose
Under Reminders, turn on Email me each morning.
-
Choose the hour under Send at.
The email uses your device's time zone.
Tap Send a Test Email to see what it looks like.
The email lists what's due that day and anything still open from the past week, and tapping a title opens the note in the app. Days with nothing due send nothing.
Good to know
- One reminder per note, and reminders don't repeat. A checklist can have a due date on every item.
- Every device alerts you. Each signed-in iPhone, iPad and Mac shows its own notification.
- Reminders sync. Set one on your Mac and your iPhone alerts you too, once it has synced. Opening Remindly syncs right away.
- Reminders are a moment in time. A 9 AM reminder set in New York goes off at 6 AM in Los Angeles.
- On the web, notes with reminders and checklist items with due dates appear on the calendar, and you can drag a note to another day to move its reminder. Typing a date into a checklist item works there too, for dates written in English.
